Almost half districts of Bangladesh are being ravaged by the floods this year which have been considered as worst flood during recent years. A third of Bangladesh is underwater after some of the heaviest rains in decade, officials said. The floods started late last month, and after briefly easing continued to worsen, destroying crops and driving people from their homes in several impoverished regions. A total of 129 people mostly children had died till now. A report mentioned that 5,665 people had diarrhea, 1,553 people had respiratory tract infection (RTI), and some 2,513 people had skin diseases. According to UNICEF, among the people estimated to have been affected by flooding, around 1.3 million would be children, who are the major victims of drowning. This flood washed away the few things that count as assets for some of the world’s poorest people — their goats and chickens, houses of mud and tin, sacks of rice stored for the lean season, croplands etc.

Only two months ago, a cyclone destroyed the country’s southwest region. People have now two more challenges here: one is COVID-19 and another is flood. People are living a very miserable life due to acute shortage of food, pure water and toilet facilities. Women in particular are facing increased difficulties. Tube wells are submerged and they are forced to drink water from the river. People are also dying from diarrhea, snake bite and lighting. Emergency food supplies, makeshift toilets and tube-wells in flood-hit areas are needed.

People are living in fears of the corona virus pandemic that it may spread in crowded shelters.Physical distancing is virtually impossible as families packed into reinforced schools, government buildings and community halls. Villagers has lost home, cropland, fisheries and Sundarbans, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is also damaged by this super cyclone.
